Scope

In 2021 QMAX completed the installation of muffin monsters in the Sydney Westmead Hospital for our long time client Axis Plumbing. With the potential for personal protection equipment, such as masks, gloves and cleaning wipes entering the wastewater stream from hospital washdown areas, the inclusion of Muffin Monster grinders would break these items down into small particles that will flow freely through the system. QMAX supplied and timely commissioned, three 10K Series Muffin Monster grinders, which were built to the specifications of the hospital complete with a customisable controller.

Challenges

There were two main challenges for this project one was the location, as the 100mm diameter pipes exiting the washdown facility travel across the plant room ceiling under the wards limiting space for additional equipment. The other challenge was the harsh chemicals used to disinfect contaminated equipment within the hospital, the sodium hypochlorite solutions used are powerful oxidizing agents that can corrode common pump materials such as ductile iron.
