Challenges

This project had some challenges due to the fact that the existing Pump Station had to remain functional during construction and being a 3.6mtr Internal Diameter Pump Station, RMS placed a restriction of access with piloted trucks between 10pm – 6am. Driving over width loads through heavily populated streets is always a challenge. The excavation was also challenging due to rising ground water to within 2.0m from the surface.

Solutions

Q-Max successfully installed this Pump Station at night starting at 10:00pm and by 2:00am the crane was packing up to head for home. The Precast method of construction has proved to be very successful in tight and in difficult soil conditions which other methods of construction would struggle to compete. The reason this installation was successful was due to good communication between all parties involved to make this happen as smoothly as possible with no disturbance to the neighborhood.
