Yarrah Estate Sewer Pump Station
Scope
Yarrah Estate, situated on the north side of Yass, is a newly developed estate bordered by the picturesque Yass Valley and the serene Yass River. The initial phase of the project comprised 149 residential lots, all positioned below Yass’s existing sewer infrastructure. Therefore, the implementation of a sewer pump station became imperative to gather and transport sewage to the sewer trunk main along Laidlaw Street in Yass. The chosen site for this pump station was in proximity to an aging council-owned pump station, recognised as being below capacity. Through negotiations between the council and the developer, plans were made to increase the capacity of the new pump station to facilitate the decommissioning of the old station upon the completion and activation of the new infrastructure. QMAX collaborated with various stakeholders, including the developer, civil engineers, civil contractors, and the council, to oversee the design, production, installation, and commissioning of this vital infrastructure. The QMAX Sewer Pump Station, boasting a 2.2-meter diameter and 5.5-meter depth, was constructed using precast concrete and equipped with dual pumps, DN100 SH10 316 stainless steel pipework, resilient seated valves, and a magnetic flow-meter. Additionally, two fiberglass emergency storage tanks were installed adjacent to the pump station, providing an extra 60kL of emergency storage. The control system was integrated with the council’s Broderson RTU32M SCADA system to ensure continuous monitoring and control, featuring a digital power meter and Aucom soft starters.
Challenges
The development of Yarrah Estate posed several challenges, primarily centered around the need to address the limitations of the existing sewer infrastructure. With the residential lots positioned below the existing sewer system, a comprehensive solution was required to efficiently collect and transport sewage to the designated trunk main. Moreover, the decision to increase the capacity of the new pump station to accommodate the decommissioning of the old one added complexity to the project, necessitating careful planning and coordination among all parties involved. QMAX’s role in overseeing the design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of the infrastructure was instrumental in navigating these challenges effectively. Additionally, the integration of emergency storage tanks and the implementation of a sophisticated control system further contributed to the project’s success by enhancing its resilience and operational efficiency. Through close collaboration and innovative solutions, the challenges posed by the development of Yarrah Estate were effectively addressed, ensuring the seamless operation of essential sewer infrastructure for the burgeoning residential estate.
