Fortis Precast Concrete Pump Stations New

Fortis Precast Concrete Pump Stations

Stronger. Tougher. Longer Lasting.

Fortis is the precast concrete pump station QMAX Pumping Systems built for council, water authority and subdivision infrastructure, where whole-of-life cost matters more than the lowest install price. It is engineered to a 100 year design life, cast in steel moulds from concrete of up to 70MPa, and supplied with a sealed integral valve chamber for safer maintenance access.

Fortis is listed on the WSAA Product Appraisal Register and approved for use by participating Melbourne Retail Water Agencies through the MRWA framework. QMAX has delivered it across more than 45 projects in NSW, ACT, QLD and VIC, with every station sized to the catchment, the site conditions and the specifications of the relevant authority.

QMAX designs, manufactures, delivers, installs and services the station. One contract and one point of responsibility, from initial scoping through to commissioning and long-term maintenance.

WSAA product appraisal

Fortis precast concrete sewerage pump stations are listed on the WSAA Product Appraisal Register under appraisal PA 2310, issued on 5 December 2025 and current to 1 December 2028. The appraisal covers nominal diameters of 2.2m, 3.2m and 3.6m, and references AS 1379:2007 for the specification and supply of concrete together with WSA 114:2002 for special class concrete.

MRWA approval for Victorian water authorities

Fortis is listed in the MRWA product catalogue as product P01912 and is accepted for use by participating Melbourne retail water agencies, including South East Water, Yarra Valley Water, Greater Western Water and Coliban Water. For Victorian projects this means the station type has already been assessed against authority requirements for quality, safety and long-term performance before it reaches submission.

Quality, environmental and safety certification

QMAX holds ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, all accredited through JAS-ANZ. Fortis pump stations are designed and manufactured under those certified processes, which gives councils and water authorities the documentation trail they need at assessment.

What this means for approval risk

Specifying a station type that authorities have already assessed reduces the likelihood of redesign, resubmission or delay during approval. QMAX supplies the supporting documentation with the design, so the submission package is complete when it is lodged.

Frequently asked questions about Fortis precast concrete pump stations

What is the Fortis precast concrete pump station?

The Fortis Precast Concrete Pump Station is QMAX’s proprietary precast solution for sewer and stormwater applications. Developed from more than 50 years of experience designing and manufacturing precast concrete pump stations, Fortis focuses on structural strength, durability, serviceability, and long-term asset performance for development and authority-owned infrastructure.

Learn More
What design life is Fortis engineered to achieve?

Fortis pump stations are engineered with a 100-year design life to provide asset owners with long-term certainty. This engineered design life supports reduced whole-of-life costs, minimises future replacement requirements, and enables confident long-term infrastructure planning for councils, water authorities, and major developments.

Learn More
What concrete strength is used in Fortis pump stations?

Fortis pump stations are manufactured using 70MPa high-strength concrete, exceeding the strength of many standard precast pump stations, which typically use 40–50MPa concrete. This increased concrete strength improves structural integrity, load resistance, and long-term durability in demanding water infrastructure applications.

Learn More
How does Fortis improve safety during installation and maintenance?

A: Fortis components are weight matched so lifts are more stable, which reduces handling risk during installation. The bigger safety gain is ongoing: the integral valve chamber is sealed from the pumpwell atmosphere, so routine valve maintenance is not carried out in a confined sewer atmosphere. Sealing the chamber also removes the differential settlement that commonly occurs between a pumpwell and a separate valve chamber.

Learn More
Can Fortis be configured for restricted or compact sites?

A: Yes. Fortis can be configured for sites with limited space, with an integral valve chamber available in custom sizes to reduce the overall footprint where required. Nominal diameters of 1800mm, 2200mm, 3200mm and 3600mm are available, so the station can be matched to the footprint rather than the site being worked around the station.

Learn More
Is Fortis suitable for large development pump stations?

A: Yes. Fortis is commonly specified for the development of sewer and stormwater pump stations in housing estates, subdivisions, and multi-lot projects. For staged developments, QMAX sizes the pumpwell, rising main and emergency storage to the ultimate build-out so the station does not need retrofitting as later stages are released.

Learn More
What does MRWA approval mean for Fortis pump stations?

MRWA approval confirms that the Fortis Precast Concrete Pump Station has been independently assessed through the Metropolitan Retail Water Agencies (MRWA) framework and is accepted for use by participating Victorian retail water authorities. Fortis is listed in the MRWA product catalogue as product P01912. Participating agencies include South East Water, Yarra Valley Water, Greater Western Water and Coliban Water. The approval verifies alignment with authority requirements for quality, safety, performance and long-term suitability in public water infrastructure, so engineers specifying Fortis on a Victorian project can reference a catalogue-listed product rather than seeking a separate product assessment.

Learn More
How does Fortis reduce approval and compliance risk?

A: Because Fortis has already been assessed through the MRWA framework and appraised on the WSAA Product Appraisal Register, the station type is not being evaluated from scratch at submission. That reduces the likelihood of redesign, resubmission or delay during authority review. QMAX supplies the supporting design and compliance documentation with the station, so the submission package is complete when it is lodged.

Learn More
What ongoing support does QMAX provide for Fortis projects?

QMAX provides whole-of-life support, including engineering documentation, commissioning assistance, operator training, and long-term service and maintenance planning. Maintenance can be scheduled directly with QMAX, and genuine parts are supplied from the same business that built the station.

Learn More
Why choose QMAX Fortis for authority and development projects?

Fortis combines MRWA acceptance, high-strength precast concrete construction, engineered durability, and QMAX’s full detailed design, engineering, and construction to deliver reliable, compliant water infrastructure outcomes.

Learn More
What sizes do Fortis precast concrete pump stations come in?

A: Fortis is available in nominal diameters of 1800mm, 2200mm, 3200mm and 3600mm. The WSAA product appraisal covers the 2.2m, 3.2m and 3.6m sizes. Depth, access covers, valve chamber configuration and pipework are set per project, and QMAX will nominate a diameter from the catchment and flow calculation if it is not already determined.

Learn More
How much does a precast concrete sewer pump station cost?

A: Cost depends on the catchment, station diameter and depth, emergency storage requirement, rising main length and the authority specification that applies. QMAX provides a budget cost proposal from the project details, and will run the flow calculation where the duty point has not been set. There is no charge for the proposal.

Learn More
Should I specify a precast concrete or a fibreglass pump station?

A: Precast concrete suits larger sewer catchments, council and water authority assets, and projects where design life drives the whole-of-life case. Fibreglass suits smaller catchments, constrained access and shorter lead times. QMAX manufactures both and will recommend a station type from the duty point and site conditions.

Learn More
What documentation does QMAX provide for council approval?

A: QMAX supplies the design documentation, product appraisal and approval references, and the supporting compliance information required for authority submission. Fortis is appraised on the WSAA Product Appraisal Register and listed in the MRWA product catalogue, and QMAX manufactures under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification accredited through JAS-ANZ.
