Scope
Cooling Chillers Using Sea Water
This project at the prestigious residential development in Darling Island, Sydney was a very interesting project to be involved with.
The condenser water for this building is drawn from Sydney Harbour. To dissipate heat from the building sea water is pumped through the condenser tubes in the chiller.
The Southern Cross pumps were supplied using full 316 stainless steel construction, including the base plate and coupling guards.
Challenges
Drawing from the harbour faced us with challenges – the main one being mussels in the water being pumped into the condenser tubes in the chiller.
To overcome this issue, QMAX worked with Amiad Filtration to select a corrosion resistant, automatic filtration system that could effectively filter out the mussels and keep the system clean.
