Scope

The Lithgow Correctional Centre, in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, required a refurbishment of a critical sewer pump station servicing the Correctional Centre. The correction’s environment is known for presenting some of the harshest sewer conditions, creating the need for effective solids reduction and contraband removal. To tackle these issues, a dual shaft Muffin Monster grinder was introduced to precondition troublesome solids that frequently caused blockages in the pumps, ultimately aiming to eliminate unplanned maintenance and reduce associated costs.

Challenges

The refurbishment included the installation of a 30K Channel Muffin Monster with 7 tooth cutters, enhancing the pump station’s operational efficiency. QMAX also replaced the old, worn-out control panel and upgraded the access covers to better align with the constantly evolving safety standards. These improvements were essential not only for maintaining operational effectiveness but also for ensuring adherence to safety standards within the facility.

The project faced several challenges, particularly with the timeline and site constraints. Due to the critical nature of the sewer pump station, it couldn’t be isolated during refurbishment, limiting the work schedule. QMAX had a narrow window to complete the project, requiring careful planning and coordination for efficient installations.

The tight deadline added pressure, making it essential for the team to be agile and responsive to complications. Despite these challenges, QMAX’s dedication and expertise enabled them to successfully manage the constraints while ensuring essential services for the correctional center were maintained throughout the process.
